The President's Message

Here we are in February already! How time flies. It's raining as I am writing this. Not hard but I am so happy to have any of it. I hope all our members survived the downpours we had at the end of January. We have one leak, but it is on the patio and not a problem. Sooner or later, it will get fixed.

The elections came and went. I thought the rhetoric would subside and we could get back to the everyday. I was wrong and have just about sworn off news altogether. I'm tired of it. I have been a news junky most of my adult life, but I've had my fill. I worry sometimes if we can survive as a nation with all this divisiveness. I'd say at least we are not fighting in the streets, but even that is not true. I have always prayed for whoever is the president to be wise and do a good job. Hasn't always worked out, but at least I try.

Last meeting was very informative. It always is. I learn as much from the Q&A as from the program. Once again, Toby gave the program with support from Michael. We also had a longer than usual business meeting. The crowd was wild. Nah, we had a lot of questions.

I really enjoy my job as president. If you would try it, you would like it. I'm just about at the end of my two-year stint. I have not heard from anyone about the elections in June. Would someone like to step up and be a candidate or form a committee to search for some candidates?

I'd like to reiterate what Toby and Michael have been saying since I joined this club: Be careful about your security. We talked about the phone calls we are getting, too. Now you can't say "Hello" when you answer the phone. If someone asks you if you can hear them don't say "yes."

One person suggested we answer the phone with "How much are you gonna send me?" I don't know about that, but most of the time I don't even answer the phone unless I know for sure who is calling. This is becoming true of my cell phone, too. That really fries my bacon! Anyway, the reason is someone at the other end could be recording what you say and with a little editing have "proof" you agreed to something. So try to teach yourself how to answer questions from someone you don't know carefully so you don't get caught up in this net.
