The President's Message

Hello everyone. I am alive and well. I am reporting this as at the meeting on April 22, I took a nasty fall as I was returning from a little shopping at Staples. We (Andy and I) had a great parking spot when we first arrived, but I had forgotten to purchase the raffle prizes as Sandy G had asked me to do. At first I panicked, as I am not familiar with the area, but Craig assured me there was a Staples in the Target center off of the 101 and Las Posas. So as soon as I finished my duties with the business meeting, I scurried over to find some neat prizes. I found a small laptop or two in one bag, a power strip, some cable holders and a couple of other things. Life was good.

When I got back to the Boys & and Girls Club, the place was packed! My great parking spot GONE! After driving around a bit, I found one near the front of the building, gathered my treasures and headed toward the meeting. I have never been accused of being graceful, not once. I power walked down the side of the building fully intending to turn left at the corner and go on down to the meeting. Didn’t work out.

As I got to the corner, I sort of turned, but my body kept going straight, right down to the parking lot. Now at that spot there is an extra step to the lot; I think I missed it completely. I bounced between the suburban parked there and the hedge next to it. Seemed to take forever to fall.

At first I could not get up, I kept saying OH, OH, OH. A nice young couple heard this damsel in distress and came to my aid. Poor guy, I think I outweigh him by at least 30 pounds, but he managed to get my feet under me and pick up all my treasures. His wife went to get Andy, and we went on to the meeting. Gosh, that hurt. Later, we went to the ER. I am happy to say nothing was broken, and I had managed not to hit my head. So I missed two days this week at the jury, as well as a trip to Hoover and Parker dams. Dang. I was looking forward to that, but I am still hobbling around and in some pain. I didn’t know I could pull that many muscles in my back at once!

The meeting was enjoyable as usual, We had two visitors, and one of them volunteered to serve as our president for the next term. Of course, he had to join. His first name is Dennis, and I am afraid I don’t remember more about him.

We had some trouble with the internet during the presentation by Toby and Michael. The presentation proceeded in fits and starts, but a good time was had by all. John will talk more about the presentation later in the newsletter. Be sure to read it when it gets posted. There are always great questions during the Q&A, and who doesn’t enjoy the doughnuts and coffee?

That’s all for now, I have one more column next month, and my stint as your president is done. I will miss it, but I will still be at the meetings. See you on May 27.
